Socket-weld and threaded flanges
For small-bore lines up to about 2 inch: socket-weld flanges take a fillet weld, threaded flanges need no welding at all.
About socket-weld and threaded flanges
In a socket-weld flange (SW) the pipe sits in a counterbore and is fillet-welded. The socket bore is machined to the pipe schedule, so state it with the order.
Threaded flanges (TH) are tapped NPT to ASME B1.20.1 and are used where welding is not allowed, such as in some hazardous areas.

Where it is used
- Instrument, sample and drain lines
- Chemical injection lines
- Hydraulic and utility small-bore piping
- Areas where hot work is restricted (threaded)

Facings
- Raised face (RF), serrated 125–250 AARH
- Flat face (FF)
- Ring-type joint (RTJ)
- Tongue and groove, male and female
Marking
Hard-stamped or stencilled with Teshi mark, size, class, grade, heat number, bore or schedule and standard, so every piece traces to its certificate.
Testing
- Dimensional and visual inspection
- PMI on alloy grades
- Hardness, impact (LF2), IGC (stainless) on request
- UT of forgings when your QAP calls for it
Packing
Faces protected, rust-preventive coating on carbon steel, packed in wooden cases or on pallets. Seaworthy packing for export orders.
Questions buyers ask
Do socket-weld flanges need the pipe schedule?
Yes. The socket bore and hub are matched to the pipe schedule, typically Sch 40 or Sch 80.
